Orthopaedic Casting
  Overview

The global orthopaedic implant market demands the best and at Thornton we are best placed to provide it. From tibial and femoral knee replacement components to hip prostheses, implants can be tailored to specific customer requirements. All components are produced to ‘near nett shape’ standards and require minimal finishing.

We can call upon Thornton and Jet’s one hundred years of experience for machining and finishing, and the supply of UHMWPE inserts to provide the customer with a seamless service. Thornton can achieve intricate surface detail and complex anatomic design geometry to produce components that exceed customer expectations. Cast implants generally require less processing than forgings, and thus cost savings can be passed to the customer. Implants manufactured from cobalt alloys can suffer from porosity or inclusions when poor process control impacts. Thornton operates with the principle of built-in process control that reduces rejection rates and results in cost savings.
